Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is consignment? Why should I consign?
Everyone has items in their closet that are better than “thrift” donation. Bring those items to His & Her to make a little money for yourself. Consignment is resale. Your items are yours until they sell. When they do, you get the payout percentage as indicated on the percentage guide. (Luxury items yield more!) Every designer handbag and luxury item is carefully screened and authenticated before going on the sales floor. Contact us for authentication information.
  • Why shop consignment?
Consignment shopping is savvy. You’re finding unique and one-of-a-kind items and brands that you may not normally find locally here in the Memphis Metro area. As well, you’re getting new or very gently loved designer and better brand clothing at a fraction of the original retail price. Consignment is GREEN. We enjoy helping our customers ‘turn their closets into a revolving door of fabulousness”. It not only helps to save you money, but it helps to save our earth as well. Our goal at His & Her is to help women and men build vibrant wardrobes with a smaller carbon footprint.
  • Why NOT sell online?
Online selling such as Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist, etc. can be expensive. After paying auction fees, online payment fees and shipping fees, you have very little left. Plus it can be a hassle. Online bulletin board sales are great but do want a stranger coming to your house? Bringing your Items to His & Her and picking up a check is a much easier (and safer) option.
  • Do I need an appointment?
No. His & Her consignment hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm. Bring your 15 or less items during these hours, Tuesday thru Saturday. This allows us to meet and go over your consignment agreement. We’ll go through your items and set up your consignment account. While we’re doing this, you get a chance to check out our store and have some shopping time. On an average your first time consigning with us can take about 10 – 15 minutes. At His & Her, we prefer quality over quantity so please select items in accordance to our guidelines.
  • How do you price items?
We are constantly researching prices and will normally price your items 1/3 to ½ of the original retail depending on demand, condition, and brand. If your items still have tags please keep them on. You will get more for your ‘new with tags’ items. We are open to working with our consignors on pricing luxury pieces. We also offer authentication for luxury pieces. All luxury and commonly “faked” items are authenticated before being offered for sale. WE DO NOT ACCEPT OR SELL “KNOCK-OFF” items. Please contact us first if you have questions about the authenticity of an item you’re considering for consignment. Consignment percentage for luxury pieces are on a sliding scale based on price, brand, and condition.
  • When do I get paid?
When your item sells. Your money will go into the account that was setup for you during the first time you dropped off items for consignment. You have the option to cash out or use your account balance for purchases at His & Her. Consignors can monitor their accounts at www.myresaleweb.com You will be give information about this website on your first visit. NOTE: We offer layaway on items $100 or higher. You will not receive commission on any layaway item until it is fully paid.
  • If my items don't sell can I get them back?
Please be assured that we will do everything we can to sell all of your items. However, you can request any unsold item anytime during the 90 day consignment period or up to a week afterwards. Alternatively, if you don’t pickup your unsold items within the week after your consignment period ends, or don’t want them back, we will donate them to a local shelter and/or clothing pantry. Donation is easy and is so appreciated by many charities! We encourage donation and have donation receipts available.
